Bay of Islands Accommodation
Paihia forms an excellent accommodation base from which to explore all the sights and activities that the Bay of Islands region has to offer. Urapukapuka Island is the only outer island that offers overnight accommodation.
The Zane Grey Lodge provides decent units to stay in comfort. The Zane Grey Restaurant is a popular spot for visitors to have a meal. The Department of Conservation operates campsites on most of the islands except those on the western bays.
Accommodation for Kerikeri, Waitangi and Opua is primarily based in Paihia. The demand for accommodation skyrockets between December and March. You are advised to book well in advance if you intend to visit in this period. There is a wide variety of accommodation choices in the form of backpacker hostels, motels, lodges, bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) and upmarket waterside hotels.
