Lying 66km north of Invercargill, Gore is a very relaxed southern town and hub to the surrounding farmland.
Gore is famous for its brown trout in the Mataura River, its sheep, its moonshine whisky and a reputation as the country music capital of New Zealand - all set to the distant backdrop of the Hokonui Hills.

Art lovers will love Gore. It has some interesting museums covering the area's history, plus some art galleries. The Eastern Southland Gallery has an amazing local and global John Money collection.

Gore lies on the major bus route between Dunedin, Invercargill and Te Anau. Buses drop off at the Visitors Centre near the giant trout.
