Greytown - North Island, New Zealand
Greytown is the oldest town in the Wairarapa region. It is located 9 kms south of Carterton. It was built in 1853 and it still retains a distinct Victorian feel about it.
Till the end of the 19th century this was the principal town in Wairarapa until a rail line laid in Masterton allowed it to edge ahead of Greytown.
Greytown has impressive orchards and market gardens that have contributed to the economic strength and survival of this town.
