Lake Hawea is 35kilometres long and 410 meters deep and home to trout and landlocked salmon.

Framed by pebble beaches and magnificent views, Lake Hawea offers a variety of things to do. The Lake is a popular summer resort for fishing, boating and swimming.

From Lake Hawea township you can find an excellent walk by following Timaru River Road to Timaru Creek, a picnic and camping area.

There are a couple of motor inns and motels plus a great local pub and a general store.
