Paraparaumu, about 45 kms from Wellington and 7 kms south of Waikanae, is Kapiti Coast's most populated area and the only exit point to Kapiti Island.

The beautiful sandy and long Paraparaumu Beach 3 kms to the west along Kapiti Road is one of the prime attractions. It is ideal for swimming and looks out to Kapiti Island.

A popular halt for tourist laden buses is the Lindale Centre , 2 kms north on State Highway 1, which offers excellent cheese and ice cream at Kapiti Cheeses, one of New Zealand's finest brands famous for both.

Nearby there is the Farm Kitchen Cafe offering snacks, lunches and coffee. Another highlight is the Nyco Chocolate Factory 1 km south of Paraparaumu.
